Pulled in to Cortez, Colorado Today - Apr 9, 2014

After a great week in Moab, Utah we headed for Colorado and arrived in Cortez this morning.  After we got the RV set up at La Mesa RV Park, we headed for Mesa Verde National Park.  It's only about 10 miles from Cortez.  After stopping by the Visitor Center, we drove up to the Mesa to see the ancient Cliff Dwellings of the Anasazi Indian people.  These dwellings were built around 1200 AD.  Who knew that we had buildings dated back that far.  I thought only other countries had this kind of history.  It really is amazing that some of these structures are still standing.  They were a quite advanced culture for the time period.  Here are a few photos of some of the structures.

Looks amazing!! I remember going to visit here when I was a child -- if you and Linda get a chance to come back to AZ -- you should try and go and see it -- http://www.nps.gov/moca/index.htm :)

Hi Bruce, just popped over from Linda's blog to see more of your recent adventures. Your photos are stunning. Cannot even imagine what this civilization was like in it's heyday. Wish I could pop back in time to see! Wow, so, so amazing!

Great pictures as usual. I went there when I had a broken leg and was on crutches. Couldn't get up and down some of the ladders. Keep on having fun out there and be safe. Doug Knudson

What an eye opener, I show them to Randy and he said "let's go there!"

I recognize all of these fabulous cliff dwellings from our 2012 trip, too!! Looks like April is a wonderful time to visit Mesa Verde. It's hot and crowded in the summer.
