Estes Park, Colorado for the Summer of 2014

We arrived here in Estes Park on Saturday, May 3rd.  We're going to be staying here until October 1st!  We're going to be campground hosts here at Hermit Park Open Space.  It's a Larimer County Park property consisting of 1,362 acres.  Within the space there are 15 Camper Cabins, 3 Campgrounds, an Equestrian Campground, and acres of beautiful Ponderosa Pine forest.

After we arrived here, we had a day of training where we met all the rangers, support staff, and all the other campground hosts from the other Estes Park campgrounds (Mary's Lake & East Portal).  They all seem like a great bunch of people, and we can't wait to get to know them better.  As you may have heard, Estes Park experienced a tragic flood last Fall.  Some of the roads within Hermit Park were completely destroyed.  So, the campgrounds won't open until July.  They're waiting on FEMA...  This means that we have a vacation for a month or two!  This will sure give us ample time to explore the surrounding area.  We just got a weather alert today, May 10th that we could get 1-2 feet of snow tonight and tomorrow!  Several days ago it was in the 70s.  We will see...
Our campsite...nestled in the Ponderosa Pines.

One of the flood-damaged roads in the campground.  Some of the ruts are over 4 feet deep.

Another example of some of the damage.

Interesting weather patterns indeed over there…stay warm tonight with the snow and it'll probably be in the 70's next week! :-)
