Luckenbach and Fredericksburg, Texas - Nov 29, 2014

After Thanksgiving, Linda and I took a day trip to both Fredericksburg and Luckenbach.  She had lots of fun shopping  in Fredericksburg.  It's a great place to stroll along Main Street on Black Friday!  Fredericksburg's German influence is very apparent in many of the storefronts and decor.  Luckenbach was quite a bit more laid back.  There are only 2 main buildings in the town.  One was the old Post Office which closed in 1971, and became the General Store and Saloon.  The other building is the Dance Hall. It's a great place to sit back and have a few beers while listening to the country music.

Day trip to San Antonio - Nov 24, 2014

Linda and I spent the day in San Antonio.  It's about 60 miles from where we're staying.  We spent the majority of the day strolling along the River Walk.  It is a great way to spend a relaxing day with plenty of shops and restaurants.  We also visited downtown San Antonio, the Alamo and Market Square.

Caribbean Cruise Nov 8-15, 2014

While we were in Texas, it was pretty convenient to take a cruise out of Houston.  We went on the Norwegian Cruise Line's 7-day Western Caribbean.  Our first cruise with Norwegian, and it was really fun.  The ports were Cozumel-Mexico, Belize City-Belize and Roatan, Honduras.  The weather was great, so that made it even more enjoyable.

A view of the Norwegian Jewel ship as we were riding back on the tender boat.

It looks like it's going to be a good cruise!

Enjoying dinner with a beautiful view.

A Green Iguana (I know, it's copper...) He was nearly 5 feet long from head to tail.

To get to the park, we had to cross this swinging rope bridge

Schulenburg Texas - Nov 3-5, 2014

We stopped in Schulenburg, Texas to visit our friend Sandy.  She worked with us up in Washington State - at Port Townsend.  She's working at a really nice RV park in Schulenburg now.  We had a great visit.
While there, we were surprised to learn that Schulenburg is home to the "Painted Churches of Texas".  We toured through five of the fifteen churches.  They were all built around the turn of the 19th century.  All of them are unique, and amazing works of art.
We also enjoyed a nice dinner with Sandy... and a jam session at the RV park.  A local guitar picker played some good country and gospel songs while the crowd sang along.

Shreveport, Louisiana - Oct 31 to Nov 3, 2014

After leaving Missouri, we headed south to Shreveport.  We stayed at the Elks Lodge.  It was a really nice lodge in a pretty nice area.  At only $10/night, it was a great bargain. The lodge had their own huge swimming pool with 2 big water slides.  Unfortunately, it was too cool to swim, but I bet they are busy during the summer.  Out the back door of the lodge was a large wooden deck where you could sit outside, drink a beer, and enjoy a beautiful view of the Red River.  While in Shreveport, we enjoyed a cajun platter at the Blind Tiger.  The platter included blackened catfish, shrimp etouffee, fried crawfish, gumbo, dirty rice, voodoo shrimp, cajun corn on the cob and mini shrimp meat pies.  We also had time for a 10-mile bicycle ride from the campground to downtown Shreveport along the Clyde Fant Parkway
